Card closure, fund destinations and completion checks
Card closure is irreversible, distinct from account closure or subscription cancellation. Closure itself is free. Eligible remaining funds return to the account under current conditions; review holds, refunds and disputes separately. Slots are released only after closure completes.
Closure outcomes and completion
Card closure is irreversible, distinct from account closure or subscription cancellation. Closure itself is free. Eligible remaining funds return to the account under current conditions; review holds, refunds and disputes separately. Slots are released only after closure completes.
Closure irreversibly ends the intended card’s use, not the account. Submission is not completion; verify states, account entries and slot changes.
| Item | Outcome | Verify |
|---|---|---|
| Card | Use ends irreversibly | Actual closure |
| Funds | Eligible settlement to account | Account credits |
| Slots | Released on completion | Available slots |
Closure itself is free and eligible remaining funds return to the account. Check settlement or disputed funds under applicable terms; totals are not an immediate full-refund promise.
End of use and risk handling
Replacement, completed one-off use and exposure can involve closure, subject to transaction and merchant checks. Restrict exposed cards promptly without waiting for a new purchase.
| Use state | Action | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Replaced | Eligible old-card closure | Defaults and refunds |
| Finished | Close after settlement checks | Cancellation and pending items |
| Exposed | Restrict and contact support | Risk and transaction evidence |
For an ordinary temporary pause, consider freezing, retaining the number and slot. Cancel unwanted services with merchants, not by underfunding or closing the card.
Records to review before closure
List subscriptions, defaults, debts and cancellation results. Migrate continuing services under their rules without assuming automatic restoration.
Check holds, settlement, refunds and disputes. With $30 total and $8 held, verify fields and outcomes rather than promise an immediate $30 return.
Submit through the current control and keep completion evidence. Investigate unclear states or amounts through the original request rather than duplicate operations.
Separate cards, accounts and wallet refunds
Closing a card neither closes the account nor establishes wallet receipt. Fund return to the account and an account prepaid refund are separate operations.
| Operation | Direction | Fee check |
|---|---|---|
| Card closure | Eligible funds to account | Closure itself is free |
| Card fund return | Eligible return to account | Check current card details |
| Account prepaid refund | Requested return to own wallet | Currently $3 per request |
If $50 is eligible for account refund and the request shows a $3 fee, an illustrative $47 remains. Use eligible funds, not held card totals minus $3; this is not a closure fee.

Choosing freezing or closure
Freezing retains the card without changing credentials; closure is irreversible. Neither reverses purchases, cancels service or guarantees dispute refunds.
| Consideration | Freeze | Close |
|---|---|---|
| Future use | Eligible restoration | Old card cannot be restored |
| Credentials | Number unchanged | Old-card use ends |
| Slots | Still counts | Completion releases |
Slot release requires completed closure. Idle cards are not automatically closed and frozen or inactive cards count; an unused label is not a state check.

Payment migration for continuing services
Update cards and defaults under merchant guidance and check bills and unpaid original orders. Do not repurchase just to test migration and create duplicate services.
Cancellation and repurchase depend on merchant rules and your needs; neither is universally required or prohibited. Setup does not guarantee acceptance or isolation.
Replacement costs and details
Check segment issuing and funding fees; card funds are not extra fees. An illustrative $20 allocation to an existing card at 3% costs $20.60; new issuance adds its issuing fee.
Retrieve and protect the replacement’s number, CVV, expiry, address, postal code and name. Slots, read-only limits and merchant rules all apply; do not copy every old-card field.

Closure and funding questions
Verify closure and fund credit separately and retain originals for refund inquiries.
If the account remains open, use available account funds under current procedures; for an external refund, check its net amount and network separately.
Is there a closure fee?
Closure itself is free. A current $3 account prepaid-refund fee applies to a different operation.
Can the old card be restored?
Closure is irreversible; eligible freezing may suit temporary pauses.
Where do remaining funds go?
To the account under settlement conditions, not an immediate promise for held or pending-refund funds.
When is the slot released?
On completed closure; submission or freezing is not release.
What about pending transactions?
Review holds, refunds and eligible amounts and follow current controls or support guidance.
Is closing a card closing the account?
No. Account closure, card closure and subscription cancellation differ.
